Wells Ave S & Williams Ave S Conversion Project
by City of Renton - Public Works/Transportation on July 29, 2020Utility work on S 3rd St
As a reminder, construction on S 3rd St will continue between now and early 2021.
As we continue utility work on the third block of S 3rd St, between Wells Ave S and Main Ave S, we want to touch base with you about the lane closures and parking restrictions. We are beginning to mobilize for the stormwater crossing work on S 3rd St and will need to extend the single-lane closure and parking restrictions on the north side of S 3rd St from Main Ave S to Burnett Ave S. The south lane will remain open for traffic, as will street parking spaces on the south side of the street.
We anticipate beginning the stormwater crossing work as soon as the week of July 27. There will be a single-lane closure and parking restrictions on the north side of S 3rd St from Burnett Ave S to Main Ave S so crews can work in a safe and efficient manner between different areas with utilities. The single-lane closure and parking restrictions will be flipped to the south side of S 3rd St between Burnett Ave S and Main Ave S once crews are approximately halfway done with this work.
Three-week look-ahead schedule. All work is weather-dependent.
Preview of work on S 2nd St
In the next several weeks, crews plan to start utility work on S 2nd St between Main Ave S and Burnett Ave S. This work will be similar to the utility work that is happening on S 3rd St. We’ll share additional information soon.
Trying to decrease dust
With COVID-19 we recognize some businesses are currently using the sidewalk for to-go orders. Underground utility work can generate a fair amount of noise and dust so please keep that in mind, particularly when the work is directly in front of your building. We’re trying to reduce the dust as much as possible by increasing how often we water the work area throughout the day. We’ve also installed temporary pavement on to the road to help to reduce the amount of dust created from construction activities. Please keep in mind that the temporary pavement is not the final design of the road and will change as work progresses.
Webinar on intersection closures and detours
Looking for more information? We’ll be holding a virtual presentation on the intersection closures and detours that will be happening later this year. After the presentation, project staff will be available to answer questions from the community. Can’t make the meeting? Don’t worry. We’ll also record and post the presentation online.
