Mother's Day LOVE!

Mothers Day Love

Don't Let Isolation Keep You From Showing You Care

Don’t let the lovely ladies of your life go unnoticed this Mother’s Day. As we begin our third, and hopefully final month of quarantine, our Moms might be isolated but it doesn’t mean they're alone.

Mothers Day might look different this year. The usually crowded restaurant scene may turn into a take out option. You might not be able to give your Mom that huge bear hug, but you can drop off a beautiful bouquet of flowers.

Life feels weird. When we entered 2020 I never dreamed that our living rooms would become our classrooms. It never crossed my mind that our garage would be the newest ballet studio. Band practice has taken on a whole new meaning. Many parents are beginning to wonder what the teacher meant by “is a delight to have in class”.

Yes, Parents are taking on all kinds of roles. Hopefully helping us all to realize just how amazing the job is. Both good and bad times, we call on our Moms for help. For comfort, for love, for understanding, and at a certain age for a nice eye roll. Moms can take it, Moms are superheroes!

As we should never waste an opportunity to let our Moms, Aunts, Grandmas, and all Mother figures know just how special they are, this Sunday is the day to step it up and really let them shine. There are so many ways to let these women know how amazing they are. But just in case you’re experiencing quarantine brain, I’ve gathered for you some local businesses that are offering something special for Mom.

The Go To, Flowers

The universe has given us an opportunity to slow down and smell the flowers. Now is a great time to share that aroma with Mom.

Cugini Florist in downtown Renton has been the go to for outstanding bouquets for years! They have a beautiful assortment online to choose from or you can always ask for something more custom. This year they’ve teamed up with local artisan, Trevani Truffles to provide a nice add on a chocolate fix to any order. A nice bouquet signed sealed delivered will run you anywhere between $55-$75 on average.

Perhaps your Mom is more of a gardener. A better option might be hitting up the garden dept at Mclendons. They always have a nice array of seasonal picks, the best equipment for any garden, and Beautiful hanging fuchsia baskets.

Top of the Hill Produce, everyone’s favorite local produce market in the highlands, is another great option for locally sourced seeds and starters, and decorative seasonal baskets to brighten the home.

Urban Sprouts is featuring their “Air plant of the month” prescription! $10 a month will get Mom one air plant and care instructions every month. What a way to say I love you all year long to the plant junkie Mom in your life.

Wine!

Say I love you with a bottle of wine, or three. Mom’s love wine, this is pretty much a proven fact.

I caught up with Micha over at Cedar River Cellars this week and he encouraged guests to swing by for a purchase. On the website list their weekend hours, however, they tend to be open more often than the sign says. Micha was happy to share that they live only 7 miles away, and are happy to come down Mon-Fri and open for you. He also encourages you to support their local retailers here in Renton. The Melrose Grill, Vino at the Landing, Top of the Hill Produce, and the River Rock Grill.

Speaking of Vino, they are open. The staff knows their wine and can help you make a great selection or two for Mom. On top of the take out that Vino’s is currently doing, they have added a couple of extras for Mother's Day. Steak Skewers paired with a Watermelon, Feta, and Mint salad will get you in the spirit with deliveries on Friday when you add a bottle of wine to the order. The deal continues through the weekend, but for pick up only Saturday and Sunday. On Mother's Day Vino is putting together a nice flower bouquet and truffles packaged up with a nice bottle of Sparkling Rose.

The Melrose continues to do takeout dinner. Surprise Mom with a nice steak paired with wine. She may be home, but she can still be fancy, no salon needed.

Herbal Delight

If your Mom is more into the herbal essence, there are plenty of options. The Evergreen Market on Rainier Avenue is always ready to help you find the perfect treat. They have everything from mints to pre-rolls. Buddy's over on Sunset is also ready to serve. Call in your order and they'll have it waiting for you to swing by and grab on the way to see Mom.

Specialty Shops

It's a bummer that you can't bounce into one of our awesome local retailers and search for a special treasure, and the right card to go along with it, but you can still support these businesses. Gift Certificates are a great way to help support these brick and mortar shops and reap the rewards later when they reopen.

Sparkle down on third is back in her shop cleaning, preparing, and as always going above and beyond with every gift certificate purchased.

While you swing by to pick up the gift certificate head next door to River Valley Cheese. I did a cheese making class with my Mom over Christmas and what a blast that was.

The Pampered Mom

With Spas, nail, and hair salons closed, it may leave Mom feeling less than presentable, but a gift certificate now will have her ready to head in when the time is right. Some places have started taking appointments assuming all goes well with the phases of opening back up. Maya Whole Health across from Coulon Beach Park has gift certificates you can purchase online. They price it out to meet your Mom's needs. Anything from yoga sessions to retail therapy.

Splurge!

Listen, your Mom deserves the best. You know it, I know it, we all know it. And if you're lucky enough to be married to one of these incredible ladies and you have little kids at home, you got to step up. Mom's, especially in 2020, with the homeschooling and all, deserve to get the royal treatment. Yes, a handmade card from their children is great, so you should encourage them to do that since they're not in school being told to. But go that extra mile. Even if times are tough. Make it special so the woman does it all.
