Job Title: Board Member – Renton Chamber of Commerce

Reports To: Board Chairperson
Location: Renton, WA (with potential for virtual meetings)
Overview:
The Renton Chamber of Commerce is seeking committed and visionary leaders to serve as Board Members. As a Board Member, you will contribute to the Chamber’s mission of promoting economic vitality, business growth, and community well-being in Renton. This is a unique opportunity to have a direct impact on the business and civic environment in the city while collaborating with a network of influential leaders.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning: Participate in the development and implementation of the Chamber’s long-term strategic goals.
Governance: Ensure effective governance practices, including fiduciary oversight, compliance with bylaws, and maintaining the Chamber’s legal and ethical standards.
Advocacy: Act as a public ambassador for the Chamber and represent the business community’s interests in collaboration with local, regional, and state leaders.
Membership Growth: Help attract and retain members by promoting Chamber activities, services, and opportunities to potential and current members.
Committee Participation: Serve on committees or task forces as needed, actively contributing expertise and insights.
Event Support: Attend and support Chamber-sponsored events, including networking sessions, ribbon cuttings, and community outreach programs.
Fundraising: Assist in generating revenue and securing sponsorships to ensure the financial health of the Chamber.
Collaboration: Foster a positive working relationship with fellow Board Members, Chamber staff, and volunteers, ensuring a cooperative and productive environment.
Community Engagement: Engage with local businesses, nonprofits, and civic organizations to understand their needs and represent them effectively within the Chamber.
Qualifications:
Eligibility: Must first be an active member or representative of an active member, in good standing, for at least twelve months prior to his or her nomination.
Leadership Experience: Demonstrated leadership experience, preferably within a business, nonprofit, or community organization.
Commitment: A passion for Renton’s business community and willingness to dedicate time and resources to advance the Chamber’s mission.
Networking Skills: Strong interpersonal and networking skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders.
Financial Acumen: Understanding of basic financial statements and budgeting, ensuring sound fiscal oversight of Chamber activities.
Strategic Thinking: Ability to think strategically and contribute to the long-term planning and success of the organization.
Time Commitment: Willingness to attend monthly board meetings, committee meetings, and Chamber events, and to actively participate in various initiatives.
Expectations:
Attend at least 75% of all board meetings and relevant committee meetings.
May not miss more than three (3) consecutive meetings or subject to
Actively participate in Chamber initiatives, programs, and events.
Commit to a three-year term (terms may vary depending on the vacancy you fill and maximum term is 2x 3 year terms).
Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and uphold the Chamber’s integrity and values.
